"Results Based Management (RBM) is an adopted philosophy oriented to measuring and reporting on outcomes that can be attributed to an organization’s activities and outputs.  RBM treats activities and outputs as a means to an end, the end being a meaningful contribution to the proposed outcomes."

Results Based Management or RBM is not a new concept. It has been successfully used by many organizations over the years to manage and improve on internal and external organizational processes. The approach of RBM focuses on:

Impact
(Strategic Objectives)

Output
(Intermediate Results)

Outcome
(Lower Level Results)

Analyzing the problems to be addressed and determining their causes and effects

Identifying measurable or describable changes (results) to be achieved, based on appropriate problem analyses

Designing strategies and activities that will lead to these changes (results)

Balancing expected results with the resources available

Monitoring progress regularly and adjusting the activities as needed to ensure that the desired results are achieved

Evaluating, documenting and incorporating lessons learned into decision making and into the next planning phase

Reporting on the results achieved and their contribution to reaching larger organizational goals

GYST uses  the traditional five tier  RBM model and while the labels for each tier may vary from organization to organization, the model remains consistent allowing an organization to create global requirements for each tier while giving the flexibility to allow  managers to shape individual projects by introducing additional requirements  as needed. Indicators for the Impact (Strategic Objective) tier can also be globally defined by Initiative and can again be optimized through the option of adding additional indicators. Performance Measurements are defined by indicator and Risks / Mitigation are defined by level.

GYST can be modified to align  its model  to the business processes of any organization.
